UK National Eye Health Survey are currently looking for members of the public to join their Patient and Public Involvement Expert Working Group

The UK National Eye Health Study (UK NEHS) aims to gather data about the levels (prevalence) of visual impairment (VI) and eye disease in the UK population. We need this data because we don’t know what the real levels of VI and different eye diseases are in the UK – the data we have is over 30 years old or from limited local studies. If we are serious about eliminating preventable blindness and VI in the UK, and making our vision and eye health services and research the best in the world, then we must have this information for the UK population.

The UK NEHS will be the biggest project of its kind ever carried out. But to make it work we need members of the public – people living with VI and those with normal vision – to help us design the project. Without the knowledge, advice and understanding that you or your friends and family can provide, we know that the project won’t succeed. We are currently looking for members of the public to join our Patient and Public Involvement Expert Working Group (Chaired by Michael Bowen at the College of Optometrists) – if you are interested please get in touch by emailing Michael via michael.bowen@college-optometrists.org
